Fisher-Price recalls over 2 million baby swings after several infant deaths

More than 2 million Fisher-Price baby-swings have been recalled after being declared a "suffocation hazard" following five infant deaths, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Between 2012 and 2022, Fisher-Price Snuga Swings were linked to five infant deaths involving children between the ages of 1 and 3 months old, according to an Oct. 10 release.

The CPSC said the deaths occurred when the product was used for sleeping, adding in most cases "the infants were unrestrained and bedding materials were added to the product."

Since 2010, approximately 2.1 million Fisher-Price Snuga Swings were sold in the United States, about 99,000 were sold in Canada and about 500 were sold in Mexico.

The swings were sold nationwide at Amazon, Toys R Us, Walmart, Sam's Club and Target from October 2010, through January 2024 for about $160.

The recall states consumers should never use these products for sleep, nor should they add other materials to the swing -- including blankets -- even if the headrest and body inserts are removed.

The swing offers front to back and side-to-side movements and has 90 degrees of rotation as well as two seating positions.

There are 21 models with different, minor style variations such as color and toy accessories.

Consumers are urged to remove both the headrest and body support insert from the seat pad before continuing to use the swing.

The model number and name are printed on the underside of the swing motor housing. The chart below shows the list of Snug Swing models included in the recall:
