Westfield Health Bulletin: keep vaccine-preventable diseases in the past

Disease and death from many vaccine-preventable causes darkened history, literature and tales our parents and grandparents told us. But they were just that, stories. The truth is many of these illnesses were preventable. Our world as we have known it, essentially free of these diseases, will change drastically if research based vaccine schedules change in this country.

Those stories will become our children's and grandchildren's future. Several of the diseases in the well known vaccine schedule include Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Polio, Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Meningococcal infections.

Diphtheria is a bacterial illness that causes a thick, grey coating in the respiratory tissues causing breathing difficulties. It can lead to kidney failure, heart damage and nerve damage.
