Jamiroquai iconic 'Space Cowboy' celebrates 30th anniversary

Jamiroquai legendary track Space Cowboy celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, a milestone for both the band and fans worldwide. Released on September 26, 1994, as the lead single from their second album, The Return of the Space Cowboy, the song helped define the British funk and acid jazz scene. It peaked at number 17 on the UK Singles Chart and saw even greater success internationally, landing in the top 10 in Italy and Iceland. In the U.S., the track secured Jamiroquai their first number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart, solidifying their global reach.

The song's influence expanded further with remixes by David Morales, which made it a club favorite and kept it in circulation for years. Space Cowboy was not only a hit but also a versatile track, with multiple distinct versions. The "Stoned Again Mix" became the go-to radio version, featuring Stuart Zender's iconic slap bass. Live performances of this version often extend to over 12 minutes, featuring additional instrumental layers.

Meanwhile, the album version introduced a different bassline played by Paul Powell, showcasing the band's evolving sound. The David Morales "Classic Club Remix" propelled the track into dance clubs, where it became a staple on various compilations and even influenced modern artists.
