CEO for Cleveland Metropolitan School District gives State of the Schools Address

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) celebrated on Tuesday at City Club Cleveland that they are now meeting state standards.

CMSD announced for the first time in history, the district has earned a three-star rating on their Ohio School Report Card.

"Together we are building a future that our scholars deserve," says Dr. Warren Morgan, CEO of CMSD.

Dr. Moran addressed a crowd for the State of the Schools and announcing the results of the latest report card.

"I am so proud to announce that our state report card shows that attendance is up and chronic absenteeism is down," says Dr. Morgan.

According to the report card, Chronic Absenteeism was reduced by 4.6%. However, it is still over 50%.

"Together we are building a culture where attendance is not just expected, it is celebrated," says Dr. Morgan.

The report card also shows that Four Year Graduation Rates have improved slightly from 74.4% in 2022, to 75.3% in 2023.

"This progress is just the beginning and our report card shows we are on the right track," says Dr. Morgan.

He shared that the school district is no longer under fiscal watch and in jeopardy of state takeover.

"Not only did we improve our financial outlook, we maintained school based budget funds, we negotiated new labor agreements, giving teachers, bus drivers, and other staff members a much needed and one of the highest cost of living raises they have seen," says Dr. Morgan.

Dr. Morgan compared CMSD's three-star rating to other major school districts in the state, sharing they scored higher than Akron City Schools, Cincinnati, and Columbus.

"As we reflect on this past year, we have much to celebrate, but lets be clear our achievements are not the result of one persons effort or a single initiative, they are the product of a collective community that has come together to lift our children higher," says Dr. Morgan.

The State of the School Address marks Dr. Morgan's first full year as CEO for the district.
