Shortstop has been something of a revolving door at Dodger Stadium this year, and there's a new contender for the position: Miguel Rojas.

In the two weeks since Mookie Betts took a fastball to the hand, Rojas has made his case for a permanent move to short. He's error-free in 215 / innings, has a great arm, and is a reliable gear in the double-play machine. And Betts, despite his own skill, is just a bit more variable, with nine errors in 531 / innings at short.

So, if Rojas continues his defensive heroics and keeps himself hot at the plate, what happens? Manager Dave Roberts says he would absolutely consider making Rojas the team's permanent shortstop going forward.

"He's having a heck of a year offensively and defensively, and I love the edge, the energy, he brings every night," Roberts said.

Rojas is taking that possibility to heart. He's adjusted his training routines to increase his odds of staying healthy for the rest of the season, and he's also amenable to taking a day or two off when necessary.

"I'm taking this really seriously, because I don't want them to feel like they need to go out there and find someone," Rojas said of taking on the daily shortstop role. "I think I can do it."
