Google Launches Standalone Gemini App for iOS

Google has quietly launched a standalone Gemini app for iOS this week. Google's new AI assistant was already available as a dedicated app on Android devices, but until now, iOS users could only access it via the web or the main Google mobile app.

Google's Gemini assistant can perform various tasks including summarizing information across the web and apps, creating content (including images), and analyzing pictures. It can also connect users to other Google apps including Google Maps, Gmail, and more. Users with a Google One AI Premium subscription can also access Google's more capable Gemini Advanced AI model.

Google Gemini on iOS also supports voice interactions with Gemini Live, which recently became free to use on Android. Gemini Live currently supports around 30 languages, and it's designed to offer free-flowing conversations that can be interrupted and resumed at a later time.

Unlike on Android, the Google Gemini app for iOS doesn't let users set an alarm, send a text message, and perform other device actions. Apple's Siri assistant is currently more integrated on iOS devices, and it's soon going to get better on iPhones that support Apple Intelligence. For everyone else, however, Google Gemini and OpenAI's ChatGPT are already solid alternatives.
