WhatsApp Unveils New Year-Themed Stickers, Reactions, and Calling Effects

WhatsApp is kicking off the New Year celebrations early with a special pack of stickers and reactions that you can use to wish your loved ones in the coming weeks. These limited-edition features will be available from December 20 to January 3, accessible to all users through a new update rolling out this week.

WhatsApp has announced that users can now make video calls during the holidays, with the option to apply festive backgrounds, filters, and effects to celebrate the New Year. Additionally, when reacting to a message using any of the ๐ŸŽŠ๐Ÿฅณ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐Ÿพ ๐Ÿฅ‚ emojis, a confetti animation will appear for both the sender and receiver.

The platform has also rolled out new stickers, including a specially curated New Year's Eve (NYE) sticker pack, as well as avatar stickers that fit the New Year theme. WhatsApp highlights that these features offer a fun and interactive way to send holiday wishes.

Notably, these are in addition to the stickers and effects that the platform introduced recently. WhatsApp has introduced 10 new video call effects, including fun options including puppy ears, taking you underwater, or handing you a microphone for karaoke. Additionally, users will now be able to choose participants from a group for a group call without disturbing others.

The Meta-owned messaging platform has improved the calling experience on desktop, making it easier to initiate calls, create call links, or dial numbers directly from the Calls tab. Additionally, both desktop and mobile users can now enjoy more reliable calls with enhanced video quality, offering higher resolution and clearer visuals for both one-on-one and group calls.

WhatsApp stated, "We'll continue making improvements to calling on WhatsApp so you can make the best quality, private calls from all around the world. Happy holidays!"

For the unversed, OpenAI has recently introduced an experimental service, 1-800-ChatGPT, which brings the popular chatbot to WhatsApp, aiming to make AI more accessible without needing a separate account or app. Notably, Meta already offers Meta AI chatbot on WhatsApp.
