Stay on track during the holidays

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) -- The holiday season is full of parties and out of town guests and oftentimes tons of sweets and treats, which could all be a recipe for disaster for your fitness goals.

But there are things you can do to help prevent ruining all the progress you've made this year.

First, don't arrive to a party hungry. Many people avoid eating all day so they can indulge at the festivities. Registered dietician Stephanie Brust explains this will lead to extreme over-eating.

Brust suggests having a small high-protein snack before your event. She says this way you're not overly full and can still enjoy some food, but you're also not starved and eating everything in sight.

Another tip, don't stand by the snack table. Brust suggests to get some food and walk away. Oftentimes, people that stand and talk near the food table end up mindlessly eating. Before you know it you've had much more than you planned on eating without even realizing it.

For more tips and tricks to stay on track watch the attached video. CBS12's Brogan Morris interviews Brust and discusses how to mind your health during the holidays.
