Anglers will tell you that Maine is a great place to go fishing. Hundreds of ponds, lakes, and rivers dot the state. These bodies of water are filled with trout, bass, and salmon.
While many of these fish may barely reach the minimum length to be a keeper, some are truly massive.
We did some digging to determine the largest fish ever caught in Maine and were not only surprised about how large the fish was but also by how recently it was caught.
According to the A to Z Animals website, the largest fish caught in Maine was a lake trout that Erik Poland caught on July 2nd, 2020.
The fish, which was caught in Richardson Lake, weighed 39.2 pounds and was 44 inches long.
The article explains that this monster was caught while trolling in about 90 feet of water. Poland was reportedly using a DB Smelt Lure.

Of course, it is important to note that this was the largest fish caught inland. The fish hauled in by people fishing off the coast are much larger.
