Johns Island pair win SCGA Lefty-Righty title

Chandler Mulkey and Mike Durden, both of Johns Island, shot 61-65 -- 126 and scored a four-shot victory in the S.C. Golf Association's 48th annual Lefty-Righty Championship played June 22-23 at Lake Marion Golf Course in Santee.

Mulkey and Durden finished the tournament at 18-under-par and easily outpaced the second-place teams of Sam Jackson (West Columbia) and Dixon Walker (Columbia), and Ian Faulconer (Simpsonville) and Mason Tucker (Lancaster).

Sam McMilland of Daniel Island and Luke Walmet of Mount Pleasant finished fourth at 132.

Tucker won the lefthanders competition with a score of 71-68 -- 139.

Richard Rebholz of Charleston and Rich Weston won the Senior Lefty-Righty title, shooting 66-69 -- 135, finishing one shot ahead of Jem Mott (Holly Hill) and Mark Easterling (Branchville). Weston also won the Senior Lefthanders competition, shooting 73-73 -- 146. It was Weston's eighth Lefthanders Championship.

Grant Bennett Junior

Dallas Johnson of Mount Pleasant shot 66-73-68 -- 207 and beat John Wylie Richardson of Florence and Dawson Szabo in a playoff in the Grant Bennett Junior Invitational played June 18-20 at Florence Country Club.

Johnson won the playoff with a par on the second extra hole and has now won every age division in the Grant Bennett Junior.

Matthew Teegardin of Charleston tied for 10th at 215.

Jack Semeraro of Mount Pleasant won the Boys 12 and Under division with a score of 69-71 -- 140. Scout Nettles of Mount Pleasant tied for ninth at 155.

Players Series at Cheraw SP

Canon Moriarty of Charleston shot 71-73 -- 144 and finished second to Cade Jordan of Conway, who posted a score of 141, in the Players Series tournament at Cheraw State Park. A.J. Dietrich of Mount Pleasant tied for third at 145 while J.R. Passmore of Mount Pleasant tied for fifth at 147 in the Boys 13-18 age group.
