East TN law enforcement agencies to hold National Night Out to interact with communities in September and October

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Many local police stations are gearing up for National Night Out, with the Maryville Police Department holding its on Sept. 24 and the Knoxville Police Department hosting its own event on Oct. 1.

According to Knoxville, this first-ever event will be held from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the Public Safety Building on Huron Street on Oct. 1. This community gathering will bring residents together in one location with free food, games and giveaways in a "party-like atmosphere."

MPD's night out will begin at 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Amphitheater Park in downtown Maryville. MPD said there will be free food to the first 500 attendees as well as free family entertainment.

"There will be K9 demos, 'Jaws of Life' demo, fire extinguisher demo and fire safety information, face painting, balloon tying, and so much more!" MPD said.

MPD also said the Tennessee Highway Patrol would land a helicopter shortly after the event starts and will be taking off once the event is over.

"Blount County Sherriff's Office will be attending this event as well and plan to have their Mounted Patrol Horses on site for the public to meet," MPD said.

The Alcoa Police Department will host its own community day as well on Oct. 10 at New Midland Plaza from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

APD said the completely free family event will include face painting, bounce houses and lots of other surprises.
