Health summit in Augusta offers reproductive, maternal care

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Health officials joined together on Thursday at a summit to talk about issues surrounding reproductive and maternal health in Georgia.

The event was held at Augusta University's Summerville campus. It was hosted by multiple speakers including Senator Harold Jones, two doctors and a patient advocate.

People also wrote a letter campaign aimed at addressing state laws that restrict access to care.

"We are concerned because we need to educate each other so we'll know what to ask the doctor and what to look for and how to find the best healthcare for us," said Bonita Jenkins, president of Alpha Alpha Epsilon Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Those who attended the event learned about the impact of infertility, ways to overcome it and become parents.
