Ryan Murphy Already Chose "Monster" Season 3's Criminal

Murphy announced the news at a promotional event for season 2. It's no surprise that the streamer is ready for another season. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story has renewed interest in yet another infamous criminal case. In 1989, Lyle and Erik killed their parents, resulting in two trials, a life sentence, and a huge controversy. Season 1 of Monster focused on another notorious killer: Jeffery Dahmer.

Season 3 will follow serial killer Ed Gein. Like Dahmer, Gein is also from Wisconsin -- but instead of eating people, he preferred to turn their bones into trinkets. Yes, really. Gein became a household name in the '50s when police learned that he'd exhumed bodies from local cemeteries and -- I don't know how else to write this -- turned their skin and bones into household items. As if that weren't creepy enough, Gein reportedly targeted the graves of women who resembled his mother, Augusta. After Gein was caught, he confessed to killing two women, Mary Hogan and Bernice Worden, and was declared legally insane.

According to Variety, Gein's peculiar crimes inspired fictional serial killers like Norman Bates (Psycho) and Buffalo Bill (Silence of the Lambs). Gein is oftentimes referred to as The Butcher of Plainfield -- and now, Murphy will tell his story.

Charlie Hunnam will star as Gein in season 3 of Monster. You might recognize Hunnam from Sons of Anarchy and Shantaram. Hunnam's fellow cast members are under wraps, but Murphy loves to hire name-brand talent for his Monster anthology. Evan Peters and Niecey Nash starred in season 1 of Monster, while Chloë Sevigny and Javier Bardem fronted season 2. I don't know if Netflix is taking suggestions, but I'd love to see Kathy Bates play Gein's mother.

Alas, we'll just have to wait and see. Netflix has not announced the release date for Monsters season 3, but we'll let you know when more information is available.
