JERUSALEM (AP) -- A missile fired by Yemen's Iran-backed rebels has landed in an open area in central Israel. The early morning attack on Sunday triggered air raid sirens, including at Israel's international airport, but there were no reports of casualties or major damage. Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels have repeatedly fired drones and missiles toward Israel since the start of the war in Gaza but nearly all of them have been intercepted over the Red Sea. In July, an Iranian-made drone launched by the Houthis struck Tel Aviv, killing one person and wounding 10 others. Israel responded with a wave of airstrikes on Houthi-held areas of Yemen.

Authorities say several people have during a failed attempt to cross the English Channel from northern France. A rescue operation is underway Sunday morning, and survivors of the tragedy have been taken to the sports hall in the northern town of Ambleteuse, according to a statement from the prefecture of Pas-de-Calais region. The incident Saturday occurred nearly two weeks after a boat carrying migrants ripped apart in the English Channel as they attempted to reach Britain from northern France, plunging dozens into the treacherous waterway and leaving 13 dead, officials said.

SpaceX's capsule carrying tech entrepreneur Jared Isaacman and his crew splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico near Florida's Dry Tortugas early Sunday. Their predawn return ended a five-day spaceflight that lifted them higher than anyone has traveled since NASA's spacewalkers. MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Tropical Storm Ileana has made landfall on the coast of the Mexican state of Sinaloa a day after it pounded the resort-studded Los Cabos. The tropical storm formed Thursday off Mexico's Pacific coast and was packing winds of 40 mph (65 kph) as it moved ashore, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said. It made landfall Saturday near the coastal city of Topolobampo. Forecasters say Ileana will churn over the coastal region of northern Sinaloa during the next several hours, and then move over the Gulf of California roughly parallel to the coast on Sunday, weakening into a tropical depression.

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) -- Venezuelan officials say they've arrested six foreign nationals, including three Americans, accusing them of plotting to assassinate President Nicolas Maduro. On Saturday, Diosdado Cabello, the interior minister, announced the arrests on state television. Cabello claimed the individuals were part of a CIA-led plot to overthrow the government. He displayed images of rifles allegedly confiscated from the suspects. U.S. and Spanish officials have not commented on the arrests. The announcement followed U.S. sanctions on Maduro's allies and Spain's recognition of opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez as the election winner.
