Patriots Fans Baffled By CBS Caption Of Josh Allen's Interception

A poor New England decision put the ball in bad field position

The New England Patriots made a handful of impact plays to limit the Buffalo Bills before they ultimately fell in a 24-21 defeat.

Marte Mapu made one of those plays when he cut off a deep ball intended for Keon Coleman in coverage with Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez. Instead of taking a knee for a touchback, Mapu took some shine off the play when he returned the ball out of the end zone and got tackled at the one-yard line. Drake Maye moved the offense for a first down before New England had to punt later in the drive.

The NFL on CBS posted the highlight play on X with a different description of the play: "Josh Allen pins the Patriots inside the 1 with an arm punt."

Not totally wrong? That's how NESN.com's Sean T. McGuire assessed the play, it did come on third and long and there are certainly plenty of interceptions in the NFL that indeed our arm punts.

But the field position had far more to do with Mapu making the mistake not to take a knee, which would have brought the ball back out to the New England 20-yard line. It's not as if the Patriots defender hauled the pass in inside the five-yard line and got pinned that way.

@KidKinsey: "Arm punt?!?! Y'all can use the word interception"
