Oct. 14 -- FAIRMONT, Minn. -- The Minnesota Department of Health has set the date for a public hearing about the upcoming closures of the inpatient surgery, inpatient pediatric and labor and delivery units at Mayo Clinic Health System's hospital in Fairmont.
The hearing will take place on Monday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. in the large conference room at the MCHS Fairmont hospital, located at 800 Medical Center Drive in Fairmont. The meeting can also be attended virtually via Microsoft Teams or by calling 651-395-7448 and using the code 889 342 863.
MCHS announced last month that it will stop offering L&D, inpatient surgeries and inpatient pediatric care at the Fairmont hospital beginning March 31, 2025. A shortage of specialty physicians and a decreasing number of births at the hospital prompted the closures, health system leaders said.
Hospitals are required to notify MDH and hold a public meeting under state law if the facility is closing, relocating or discontinuing certain services such as L&D or ICU care.
