ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCSC) - Sophomore quarterback Aiden Manavian went 21-26 for 326 yards and 4 touchdowns leading Oceanside Collegiate to the 3A state championship with a 35-17 win over Belton-Honea Path at Dawson Stadium in Orangeburg on Saturday.
The title is the 2nd straight for the Landsharks who won the 2A championship last season.
Oceanside took the lead in the 1st quarter on a 9 yard touchdown pass to Terrance Johnson that would make it 7-0. The Bears would tie things up early in the 2nd on a 3 yard run from Marquise Henderson.
Momentum would shift to the Landsharks later in the quarter when Manavian would hit Peyton Shaw on a 25 yard score that would make it 13-7 after they missed the extra point. BHP would fumble the ensuing kickoff and Oceanside was back in the endzone less than 2 minutes later as Johnson took a direct snap for a 1 yard score to make it 21-7 after the 2 point conversion at halftime.
The Bears would make it a close one in the 3rd quarter at Justin Lathon scored on a 5 yard run to cut it to 21-14 then, after an interception, Chris Bridwell would kick a 42 yard field goal to make it 21-17 going into the 4th.
But Oceanside responded in the final quarter as Manavian would hit Gavin Gaspar for 2 touchdown passes of 19 and 13 yards to make the final 35-17.
Will Virgillio had 5 catches for 134 yards for Oceanside. Henderson would rush for 188 yards on 42 carries for the Bears.
