The St. Amant Gators football team let one slip away last week against Dutchtown. This week, the Gators beat Walker 33-26 in a huge District 5-5A matchup.
Walker was the preseason district favorite among the league coaches.
St. Amant (3-2) used a stingy defense to hold Walker to 3 points in the first half. The Gators were led by quarterback Cooper Babin with 197 passing yards and a touchdown pass to wide receiver Quentin Elisar. Running backs Jourden Hickerson and Tyree Williams added rushing touchdowns along with Babin. Linebacker Wesley Dykes recovered a Wildcat fumble in their own end zone for a touchdown.
East Ascension scored early and often in a 57-15 win over Prairieville in District 5-5A action. The Spartans (3-3) have won back-to-back games under Coach Brock Matherne and jumped up to No. 29 in the power rankings.
Ascension Catholic jumped to a 43-0 lead in the first quarter against Ascension Christian and never looked back in a 56-7 win. The Bulldogs (4-1) were led by Chad Elzy's 187 yards and three touchdowns.
Quarterback Camille LeBoeuf threw for 142 yards and three scores. Luke Husers, Johnny Viallon and Trevin Simon caught touchdown passes.
Husers caught a second touchdown from Cy Landry. Simon added a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown.
The Bulldog defense had 12 pass breakups against a pass-heavy Lion team. They held the Lions (2-4) to 57 total yards. Defensive back Jayden Verner had an interception for Ascension Catholic. Defensive back Harrison Ledet recovered a fumble for Ascension Catholic.

The best rivalry in the state will be played on Burnside at East Ascension field. The Gators and the Spartans will have a friendly week of competitions leading up to the game Friday. This will be East Ascension's coach Brock Matherne's first look at the rivalry up close. Coach David Oliver and the Gators are coming off of a victory in last year's game.
For the neutral football fan looking for a game to attend, do yourself a favor and pull up, but get there early because the setting is second to none.
