Brad Stevens spent this summer securing the long-term futures of multiple players on the Boston Celtics roster. Stevens has favored roster continuity following a dominant season from Joe Mazzulla's team. However, by extending all of the Celtics core, Boston is expected to become one of the most expensive teams in league history, which in turn, will place them firmly above the second tax apron, bringing a significant amount of luxury tax and penalities.

During Stevens' Sept. 24 news conference, which took place at Boston's media day, he noted how the Celtics are aware of the difficulties that will come with their current payroll. Both he and the entire front office know some difficult decisions are ahead. However, they are all committed to empowering the team to continue challenging for championships while their contention window remains open.

Stevens' job has also been made more complex due to the Celtics being put up for sale. Whoever purchases the team may not be willing to spend the money necessary to keep the current core intact.

Whatever happens, it's clear that Stevens has a plan to help keep the Celtics near the top of the Eastern Conference and the wider NBA. He has put everything in place for the team to remain dominant for years to come. If he's forced to change direction in the future, he has plenty of trade chips at his disposal. For now, though, Boston is well positioned to contend to retain their title.
