The Lincoln Journal Star has released it's all state football selections for the 2024 season. Cal Wells was a Class C1 first team selection on the defensive line. The Broken Bow senior season capped off an outstanding career anchoring the Indians defensive front this past season. Noah Shoemaker of Cozad was a C1 first team offense selection at quarterback. Shoemaker threw for just over 1900 yards this season and finished with 25 touchdown passes leading the Haymakers to a state playoff appearance.
Kyle Cox of Sandhills/Thedford was a Class D2 first team offensive selection at quarterback and was chosen as honorary captain by the publication. Cox had a record breaking season for the Knights leading them to an undefeated regular season and a state football quarterfinal appearance. Cox threw for over 1200 yards this season and ran for over 2,000. The senior finished with 23 passing touchdowns and 40 rushing touchdowns. Helping pave the way for Cox this past season was Caden Zutavern. The Sandhills/Thedford offensive lineman was also a D2 first team selection.
Maddox Jones of SEM was a six man first team all state selection. Jones helped lead the Mustangs to the six man state championship game and a state runner up finish. The senior running back averaged 115 yards per game and had 32 rushing touchdowns. SEM's Cohen Rohde was selected to the six man first team defense. The senior led the team in tackles for loss with 14. Jones and Rohde were selected as the honorary captains for the six man all state team. Luke Bailey of Ansley/Litchfield was a first team defensive selection at defensive back. Bailey helped lead the Spartans to a state playoff appearance in their first season competing in six man football.
