PORTLAND, Ore. -- A woman was hit and killed by a vehicle early Wednesday morning in Northeast Portland's Madison South Neighborhood, according to police.

Officers responded around 2:30 a.m. to reports of a woman lying in the road in the area of Northeast 85th Avenue and Northeast Fremont Street. The officers found the woman dead when they arrived and the vehicle was no longer in the area, Portland police said.

Portland police have not yet released the name of the woman, or any information about the vehicle or the driver involved in the deadly hit-and-run crash.

The Portland Police Bureau's Major Crash Team is investigating. Northeast Fremont Street is closed to Northeast 82nd, as of 5:30 a.m.
