NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) -- Crews with the New Orleans Fire Department responded to a partial building collapse in the Central Business District on Saturday, Dec. 14.
The NOFD reported that the brick facade of the first floor of a three-story building that houses an art museum and office spaces at the corner of Lafayette and O'Keefe streets collapsed onto O'Keefe Street.
NOFD officials said crews also identified cracks and shifting in exterior walls and a forward buckle.
According to the NOFD, "there were few if any people in the building" when crews arrived, and the building has since been unoccupied.
Traffic was blocked within a one-mile radius of the building, and residents are being asked to avoid the area.
NOFD officials said crews will remain at the building until it is deemed safe.
