HILO -- The Hilo Vikings girls volleyball team made quick work of the visiting Laupahoehoe Seasiders on Monday night in Hilo town.
The hosts swept LCPCS in consecutive sets -- 25-17, 25-17 and 25-13. Hilo notched its sixth win of 2024, now in fourth in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I. The Seasiders are in the bottom half of BIIF DII.
The Vikings will return to the floor against local DI rival Waiakea at 5 p.m. Friday in Hilo. Junior varsity will serve first. The Warriors currently sit one spot ahead of Hilo in the divisional standings.
Laupahoehoe (3-8) will have the rest of the week off before returning to action against DII opponent Ka'u on Monday at home on the Hamakua Coast.
KSH 3, Pahoa 0
Kamehameha Schools-Hawai'i became the first team on the island to reach double-digit wins after a straight-sets rout over Pahoa on Monday in Kea'au. The Warriors won in consecutive sets for the ninth time this season -- 25-8, 25-19 and 25-9.
KSH's usual stars stuffed the stat sheet, as Shay Beals led the squad in service aces with four while collected eight kills. Maile Kuamo'o distributed 21 assists, consistently dishing to Mia Polloi, who led both teams in kills with 12.
The Warriors (10-0) have officially opened the season with 10 straight wins for the third year in a row -- comfortably in the No. 1 spot in BIIF Division I. KSH will next be tested against east-side rival Waiakea at 5 p.m. tonight at home, with junior varsity getting things going first.
The Daggers (4-5) fell to below .500, and will try to redeem themselves next against Christian Liberty Academy at 5 p.m. tonight in Pahoa town.
Honoka'a 3, Ehunui 0
Honoka'a girls volleyball reached .500 on the season after a consecutive sets win over Ehunui on Monday in Old Kona Airport's Kekuaokalani Gymnasium. The Dragons beat the 'Io 25-13, 25-17 and 25-23.
Honoka'a moved to 5-5 on the season in the No. 4 spot of BIIF DII's rankings. The Dragons will shoot for their sixth win with a rematch against Ehunui at 5 p.m. Friday in Honoka'a town.
The 'Io (2-7) will play HPA at 5 p.m. tonight at home before battling with the Dragons again later in the week.
Match rescheduled
Monday's scheduled match between Parker and Kohala was rescheduled to Thursday in Kapa'au. First serve time is yet to be announced.
