Should Manchester City Move for Joshua Kimmich?

Joshua Kimmich is a wanted man. The Bayern Munich midfielder seems to be at the crossroads as his contract winds down at Bavaria. With one year left on his deal, there have been no talks on an extension. That has opened the door for speculations about the player's future.

David Alaba left Bayern for Real Madrid in 2021 when the German side could not agree terms with the player on a new deal.

As a new era begins at the club with Vincent Kompany, a similar scenario may be about to play out.

Given his quality, it's understandable that several European heavyweights are lining up to snap up the player at the earliest opportunity. Liverpool, Arsenal, Barcelona, Manchester United and even Manchester City have been rumoured to be interested.

City made a couple of signings last summer to rejuvenate the midfield after Kalvin Phillips fell out of favour with the manager and former captain Ilkay Gundogan left for Barcelona.

Turns out, the midfield was not stronger for it. Mateo Kovacic improved after a poor start but Matheus Nunes struggled all season to fit into the side. City were able to retain their Premier League title at the end of the season, but Rodri was overworked in the process.

With Kevin De Bruyne's future uncertain at this point, strengthening the midfield with a player like Kimmich would be the right move to make.

But there's an aspect of this that will make such a signing perfect for Manchester City. Kimmich is well-schooled in the Guardiola way. The Catalan manager gave him his debut for Bayern. Having developed his game under Guardiola, this will be a perfect reunion.

His quality as one of the best midfielders in the world will make him the right addition to strengthen a team on a roll that has many opponents fighting to topple them.
