Honda fined for alleged breach of repair information sharing scheme

An ACCC market study into new car retailing found that regional and rural consumers could face additional difficulties where independent repairers do not have adequate access to service and repair information. There could be further delays or costs associated with bringing a car to a dealership to complete certain work, particularly if the car needs to be towed or there aren't any dealerships nearby.

To address the issue, the Motor Vehicle Service and Repair Information Sharing (MVIS) scheme is designed to give independent repairers equitable access to the necessary diagnostic software and technical information to service and repair modern motor vehicles. It generally requires vehicle manufacturers to offer the information for sale by day, by month, and by year; or alternatively, for any period nominated by an independent repairer.
