A scratch-off player in Logan just joined the millionaire club - at least before taxes.
An Ohio lottery player identified only as "Steve" won a $1 million prize playing the $20 Merry Money scratch-off. He bought the ticket at the Tee Jay's Drive Thru & Deli at 511 E. Front Street on Oct. 18, according to a news release.
Merry Money has a top prize of $40,000 paid out every year for 25 years, but Steve chose a cash option, which reduced his payout to $500,000.
"After mandatory federal and state tax withholdings totaling 28 percent, he will receive approximately $360,000," according to the release.
There are many possible prizes to win in the Merry Money scratch-off, with the objective being to match one or more of 20 scratch-off numbers to one or more of eight winning numbers. If there's a match, the player wins the prize shown below the matching numbers. There are also multiplier symbols that can be revealed, which can increase the possible prize by 10, 20, 50 or 100 times.
Three top prizes remain in play.
