Daniel Jackson moves up Gophers leaderboard after win over Illinois

The Minnesota Golden Gophers picked up a big win over No. 24 Illinois on Saturday but while Daniel Jackson's fourth-quarter grab helped Minnesota pull off the upset, it also made some program history.

Jackson now has 2,464 receiving yards in his career, which pushes him past Rashod Bateman (2,395) and Ernie Wheelwright (2,434) for the fifth-most yards in program history.

The milestone didn't come without significance, however, as it came on a big catch along the sidelines with the Gophers down 17-16 with 8:50 left in the fourth quarter.

Jackson's 37-yard reception got the Minnesota offense moving and set up a one-yard touchdown pass from Max Brosmer to Jameson Geers that gave the Gophers a 22-17 lead with 5:14 to play.

Dragan Kesich added a field goal late in the game and the Gopher defense came up clutch with a pair of big stops including a Luke Altmyer fumble to give Minnesota the 25-17 victory in Champaign.

With five catches for 74 yards, Jackson has emerged as Minnesota's top receiving target as he heads down the stretch. Tutu Atwell (1994-97) is next on Minnesota's all-time list with 2,640 receiving yards while Ron Johnson (1998-2001) is within reach at 2,877 yards.

Jackson also has one more year of eligibility remaining. If he chooses to use it, he could make a run toward the top of the leaderboard which includes Tyler Johnson (2016-19) in second place with 3,094 yards and Eric Decker (2006-09) in first with 3,119 yards.
