'Severance' Season 2 Premiere Featured a Killer Unconfirmed Cameo

Severance Season 2 made its long-awaited premiere on Apple TV+ yesterday, and fans of the sci-fi thriller are pointing out that the first episode featured an unconfirmed cameo from none other than superstar Keanu Reeves. The kicker is that it was in voice only, as Reeves provided the voiceover for a stop-motion Lumon building seen in a short animation.

Starring Adam Scott as Mark Scout, Severance follows the employees of Lumon Industries as they agree to participate in a program in which their nonwork memories are separated from their work memories.

"This was a cinematic masterpiece," said @MoveFilesLive on X while sharing a clip of Reeves' cameo (seen below). "I'm the Lumon Administrative Building Branch 501, and you're sitting in me right now," comes Reeves' voice from the smiling structure, which kind of reminds us of Microsoft Word's virtual assistant Clippy that was all the rage in the '90s. Scout, Irving Bailiff (John Turturro), Dylan George (Zach Cherry), and Helly Riggs (Britt Lower) watch in confusion as Reeves explains the history of the building starting in 1870. By the time it's over, there's nothing left for anyone to do but clap, which Cherry's character humorously does all by himself.

Premiering on Feb. 18, 2022, Severance quickly became a success for Apple TV, which, if nothing else, does science fiction really well. The series holds a 95% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with its Popcornmeter sitting slightly lower at 88%. In its short history, Severance has already been nominated for a plethora of awards, including six Primetime Emmys, three Golden Globes, and five Saturn Awards. Thus far, it has managed to win 15 trophies from various organizations.

Fans React to the 'Severance' Season 2 Premiere

Hitting screens yesterday, Jan. 16, the Season 2 premiere of Severance is all the buzz today on social media, as fans have been waiting for more than two and half years for it to return. "I'm choosing to believe the 2nd season of #Severance took 3 years to make so they could do a 5 min claymation montage," said @ladybacon86. "The first scene alone made the almost 3 year wait for S2 worth it. Peak television is back," added @Hei5enberg501st.

"Season two of #Severance is slowly cementing it as one of the best shows of the decade," pointed out @theBurk3nator. "Pure cinema, if you ask me," said @realitysuckksx. MovieWeb's own Matt Mahler is a die-hard Severance fan as well, and he mentioned in his overall review of Season 2 that "you're hooked by great new developments from the very first minute."

Needless to say, it appears as if a lot of folks are ecstatic over the return of Severance, and there's still lots more to come. The Season 2 premiere yesterday was just the tip of the iceberg, as there's still nine more episodes to debut that will be released weekly until the finale on March 21. If you've yet to check it out, you can watch the first episode of Season 1, "Good News About Hell," streaming now on Apple TV+.
