GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP) -- England has advanced to the quarterfinals of the European Championship after Jude Bellingham scored a stunning overhead kick in the fifth minute of stoppage time to spark a 2-1 comeback win after extra time against Slovakia. Bellingham's overhead kick leveled the round-of-16 game at 1-1 with seconds remaining at the Veltins Arena. Harry Kane headed in the winner in the first minute of extra time as England avoided one of the biggest shocks in the history of the Euros. Ivan Schranz scored in the first half for Slovakia and his goal looked like being enough to eliminate England, which was one of the pre-tournament favorites and runner-up at the last Euros. Around 680 workers walked off the job on Friday evening despite a directive for binding arbitration from the federal labor minister. The strike is happening during the Canada Day long weekend. It's the busiest travel week of the year in the country. The Airplane Mechanics Fraternal Association said Sunday that mechanics were "the victim of WestJet's virulent PR campaign that you are scofflaws."
Animal rescuers try to keep dozens of dolphins away from Cape Cod shallows after mass stranding
WELLFLEET, Mass. (AP) -- Animal rescuers were trying to keep dozens of dolphins away from shallow waters around Cape Cod after 125 of the creatures earlier stranded themselves. Teams in Massachusetts found one group of 10 Atlantic white-sided dolphins swimming in a dangerously shallow area at dawn on Saturday, and managed to herd them out into deeper water. That is according to the International Fund for Animal Welfare. Scouts also found a second group of 25 dolphins swimming close to the shore near Eastham, with herding efforts there ongoing as the tide dropped throughout the morning. Ten dolphins died during the stranding Friday at The Gut -- or Great Island -- in Wellfleet, at the Herring River.
Former Northeastern University lab manager convicted of staging hoax explosion at Boston campus
A former lab manager at Northeastern University has been convicted of staging a hoax explosion at the Boston campus and then lying about what happened to federal agents. Jason Duhaime of San Antonio was convicted on three counts Friday. The 46-year-old Duhaime faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for each offense. Two attorneys representing Duhaime withdrew from the case in January. That is according to court documents. A public defender who replaced them could not immediately be reached for comment Saturday.

BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) -- Longtime ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale said on social media he has been diagnosed with cancer for a fourth time. Vitale announced on Friday that a biopsy of a lymph node in his neck showed cancer. He is scheduled to have surgery on Tuesday. The 85-year-old Vitale has previously been treated for melanoma and lymphoma. He also had six weeks of radiation treatments last year when tests revealed he had vocal cord cancer.
Driver charged with DWI after New York nail salon crash that killed 4 and injured 9
NEW YORK (AP) -- Police on Long Island say they have arrested a man who is accused of driving while intoxicated after authorities say he crashed his SUV into a nail salon. The crash killed four people and injured nine others. Suffolk County Police said Saturday that Steven Schwally had been speeding through the parking lot when he drove his SUV through the front window of Hawaii Nail & Spa in Deer Park at around 4:30 p.m. Friday. Schwally was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. Spokespersons for the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office and the police department said they did not have contact information for his lawyer Saturday.

That was according to park officials who confirmed the birth -- an extraordinarily rare occurrence. The park says a white buffalo is born in the wild once in every 1 million births, or even less frequently. Driver convicted in deaths of 8 people struck by SUV outside migrant shelter sentenced to 60 years
BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) -- A driver found guilty of intoxication manslaughter in the deaths of eight people struck by an SUV at a crowded bus stop outside a migrant shelter has been sentenced to 60 years in prison. A Texas jury convicted 35-year-old George Alvarez on eight counts of intoxication manslaughter on Friday. Authorities say Alvarez lost control of the vehicle after running a red light in May 2023. Authorities say he had cocaine in his system at the time. The deadly scene happened in Brownsville, which has long been an epicenter for migration. Alvarez was also convicted on 10 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
