Cross country: North Platte High boys, McClain win McCook Invitational

The North Platte High boys' cross country team won the McCook Invitational on Thursday.

The Bulldogs were led by Jack Knapp and Luke Tegtmeier, who finished in fourth and fifth places, respectively. Knapp completed the course in 17:13.57 and Tegtmeier came in 24 seconds later.

Second place Perkins County had the two top runners in Mason McGreer and Elijah Goodell. McGreer won at 16:13.53.

Nathaniel Vieyra and James Davis finished 11th and 13th, respectively, to support Knapp and Tegtmeier. Bryan Titus was 17th and Jace Kackmeister was 20th.

"The boys ran well on a tough course," North Platte Head Coach Jake Hasenauer said. "Luke was our lone Senior on varsity today and did a good job helping lead the young squad to a victory."

Hershey finished sixth with Jordan Arensdorf and Ethan Elliott finishing back-to-back in 18th and 19th places.

The NPHS girls finished second to Minden. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Kori McClain's winning performance. McClain won at 20:16.77. She won my a minute and 21 seconds over Alexa Warner of Minden.

"Kori has had a great start to the season and it has been nice to see her hard work pay off," Hasenauer said.

Jada Hothan finished sixth and Mary Nielsen was 10th. They were followed by Kenedi Creasman, who was 19th.

For Hershey, Grace Cox finished 21st and Livia Jones was 25th.

Hasenauer said the bumpy terrain was a challenge for his team.
