One issue I've had my entire life is that I frequently leave my house without my headphones. Solid, budget-friendly earbuds are a nice tool to have in your audio arsenal for these situations. The other day, I got sent the Skullcandy Dime Evos. The short story, these well-balanced headphones will fit most people's needs and they cost only $50. Below are my thoughts on the performance and features of these nifty forget-proof Skullycandy earbuds.
Why will I never forget my earbuds at home again? Skullcandy uses a clever carabiner-style clip that hooks onto your backpack or even a belt buckle. Sure, you must remember to put the earbuds back in the clip case after you use them, but if you can manage to do that, you'll never be without music when you leave your home.
The Dime Evo headphones provide up to 35 hours of listening time -- eight from the buds and 28 hours of extra charge from the carrying case. Like most newer earbuds on the market, you'll also get rapid charging, giving you up to 2 hours of listening time from a 10-minute charge from the USB-C charging port. The earbuds magnetically pop in the case, so you are less likely to drop them when you try to take each one out. Thanks to the magnetic pull, I can even grab them from the case without taking off my backpack and without worrying about dropping them on the floor.
The earbuds are IPX4 rated, meaning they are sweat- and water-resistant. Buying affordable, workout-friendly earbuds is a worthwhile investment if you are nervous about damaging or losing your more expensive headphones or earbuds. With the The Dime Evos, you'll get crisp, solid sound at a much more affordable price point.
Browsing through Skullcandy's smartphone app, you'll find helpful user guides that explain all of the features. After connecting the earbuds via Bluetooth, the app will show your earbud's battery life and give you access to the equalizer. The EQ has presets for music, podcasts, bass boost, as well as the ability to create a custom EQ setting. You'll also be able to toggle the stay-aware mode on and off, which allows more or less external noise to be heard. This can be particularly helpful if you are out running on the road and need to be more aware of your surroundings.
Within the app, you will also find access to low-latency audio mode. This is intended for streaming content or gaming and will help better sync the audio to your video. Make sure you take advantage of this if you're someone who games a lot.
With the app's Multipoint Pairing capability, the Dime Evo earbuds can connect to multiple devices simultaneously. This means you can connect your earbuds to your phone and your laptop without disconnecting from one to connect to the other, which is one thing that drives me crazy with other headphones. While listening to music on my phone, I held down the right earbud to trigger Bluetooth pairing. Usually, this stops the music from playing, but the Skullcandy headphones simply announced they were pairing; they popped up and paired to my laptop without pausing the music. When I started playing music on my laptop, the music from my phone stopped playing, and the audio seamlessly transitioned. I had to press play again on my Spotify to return to my phone's audio. This is a super easy, useful feature if you typically get a lot of phone calls for work.
The headphones have a noise-isolating fit. This doesn't mean they have a noise-canceling feature, but they block out sounds from outside. I also like that these do not pause the music if you remove one earbud. You can easily listen to something while having the other out of your ear.
