"We got better as the game went on," said Massaro, a Brockton High School graduate who went on to score 112 points at Franklin Pierce. "They battled hard, saw a little bit of adversity, and handled that well."
Freshman Jillian Parrell opened the scoring on the power play for the Rams (0-1-1) with four minutes off the clock in the first period. Coach Tom Greland placed the newcomer alongside the Rams' two top scorers from a year ago -- junior Sarah McIntyre and senior Kayla Leonard -- on the top line, and it has helped the freshman score in back-to-back games to open her career.
"They were moving the puck really well," Greland said. "The kids work hard in practice and it's nice to see that translate into a game."
Isabel Digirolamo tied the game before the end of the first, latching onto a sharp pass to the slot from behind the net by Shannon Lane.
It was a similar script in the second -- Marshfield took an early lead with Gabby Reardon sending a long-range backhand through a crowd, but Canton responded right back.
Vicente charged through the middle of the ice after a long spell of Marshfield pressure, drew a penalty shot, and converted with a nifty backhand-forehand move to deke out Marshfield goalie Morgan Murphy (17 saves).
"She's got hands on her," Massaro said of Vicente. "She knows what she's doing with the puck. I had all the confidence in the world that she was going to put that in."
