Ohio shooting leaves suspect and 4-year-old girl dead; officer injured but stable

COLUMBIANA COUNTY, Ohio (WTOV) -- A shooting in Ohio left a suspect and a 4-year-old girl dead Wednesday.

Authorities said they responded to a report of a suicidal male walking down the street around 2 p.m. in Calcutta. When three St. Clair Township Police officers approached the man, he reportedly pulled a weapon and opened fire.

"Almost immediately the man pulled a weapon and opened fire on my officers," Chief Brian McKenzie said. "Officers returned fire hitting the suspect."

A 4-year-old child inside a nearby business was struck by a bullet and confirmed dead Wednesday evening due to her injuries.

The suspect, identified as Joseph Como, 30, also died from his injuries.

The St. Clair Township Officer who was shot was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital and is stable after undergoing surgery. McKenzie is asking for prayers for the officer.

"Right now, we're trying to gather as much information as fast as we can to update the community," McKenzie said.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has taken over the inquiry and counselors are being made available for involved officers.
