'Star Wars' Jude Law Opens Up About Heartbreaking Reason His Walk of Fame Ceremony Was Delayed

Jude Law recently revealed that his Walk of Fame star ceremony became a much more emotional moment for him, with the actor's mother passing away just as the event was due to take place. The actor, who is currently starring in the new Star Wars hit series Skeleton Crew, had to put the unveiling of his star on hold, but revealed that the sad loss also ended up making the event even more special when it eventually happened on Thursday, December 12. Law told People:

"It's been actually quite a long process because I found out and was originally going to have the service a couple of weeks back. And actually, I lost my mum. So we had to delay it. But in a very odd way as a kind of final gift, it meant that a few more of my family could actually be here. So honestly, the whole event has been quite an emotional experience, and obviously just a very personal occasion and really touching."

While the actor did not directly mention the passing of his mother, he did pay tribute to her, noting how she was the one who was partly responsible for introducing him to some great movies that subsequently inspired his career.

"I had a mother who showed me the great silent movies and comedies and musicals and dramas of the Hollywood Golden Era, American new wave [and] foreign movies. And I had a dad who took me in the '70s and '80s to blockbuster movies where we ate our bodyweight in popcorn and chocolate. So to have a place here among the talent that I grew up watching in all those films is both sublime and ridiculous."

Jude Law Has Joined the 'Star Wars' Franchise Close

Star Wars has become a minefield when it comes to the up and down reactions to its recent years of Disney+ TV show releases. From the high of the original seasons of The Mandalorian, to the divisive release of The Acolyte, it has been hard to predict exactly how any new show will land with audiences.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew debuted at the top of the Disney+ chart on its release, and has been holding firm in that position despite competition from the likes of Inside Out spinoff Dream Productions and the ever-popular Bluey. Led by Law and with a band of young characters in tow, the series was pitched as "Goonies in space" when it arrived, and with the nostalgic air of Steven Spielberg's Amblin adventure movies of the '80s, it has proven to be a huge hit with everyone.

The series has pulled in an incredibly impressive 95% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, but an even more important 81% Popcornmeter score from audiences. Following the catastrophic 18% score that The Acolyte drew, this is a result that Lucasfilm and Disney desperately needed as they head into a new era of Star Wars movies. The real question is whether this is going to be a one-shot success or the start of something big for one of the largest franchises in the galaxy.
