Inez Marjorie Johnson, age 102, of Argyle, MN, passed away on October 22, 2024, in North Star Manor, Warren, MN.
She was born on May 28, 1922, in Argyle, to Ernest and Lucy Poolman. Inez grew up on a farm east of Argyle, went to a country school, and later to Argyle Public School. She married Leroy "Bud" Johnson on December 27, 1941. They lived and farmed northwest of Argyle for many years before moving into town in 1974. Inez and Bud were active leaders in 4H. They also enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, and visiting with friends and family. They were members of Argyle Presbyterian Church where Inez was an elder, trustee, Sunday school teacher, and treasurer.
Inez loved gardening and planting flowers. She spent a lifetime volunteering wherever there was a need, including church, Senior Club, Senior Meals, Community Education, Preschool Ready Buddy Program, Grade School Classroom Volunteers, Foster Grandparent Program, Argyle HOPE Program, and RSVP (Retired & Seniors Volunteer Program). She also supported Relay for Life and Hospice, and was a member of both the Argyle Garden and Marshall County Homemaker's Clubs. In July of 2016, Inez was named Outstanding Senior Citizen for the State of Minnesota at the State Fair.
Inez is survived by two daughters, Elaine (Harlan) Yell of Argyle, and Carol (Gerald) Hanson of Fargo, ND; four grandchildren, Shelley, Alison, Brad, and Mark; six great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Elayna, Michael, Chelsey, Liv, and Dayne; three great-greats, Addison, Brody, and Margo; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to Bud, who died on July 29, 2003, Inez was preceded in death by her parents; eleven brothers and sisters, Ernest (Caroline) Poolman, Francis (Dorothy) Poolman, Olive (Ivar) Houfburg, Grace (Pat) Kilfoyl, May (Harry) LaFond, Harry (Lorene) Poolman, Florence (Bert) Hjelle, [twin] Ila (Louis) Deschene, Evelyn (Roy) Edgar, and two infant siblings.
The family would like to thank North Star Manor and Hospice of the Red River Valley for the wonderful care that Inez received these last several years.
