MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The good times are rolling in Downtown Mobile, and with the fun of parades comes the responsibility of parking.
They're hard to miss, bright yellow signs all around Downtown Mobile, telling drivers not to park in certain spots two hours before, during or after parades.
On Feb. 14, as soon as the clock hit 4:30, two hours before the Conde Cavaliers took the streets, Mobile Police started tracking down vehicles that were illegally parked, loading them up and bringing them to the temporary impound lot.
"We've been seeing those two-hour parking signs for a month," said Elijah Norwood, whose car got towed. "We were parked right outside of Squid Ink and they towed me. I got back; I wanted my dollar back that I paid for parking."
A total of 61 vehicles were towed on the first two days of Mardi Gras, most of them because drivers didn't pay attention to the bright yellow "no parking" signs.
Last year, MPD towed 34 vehicles on the first two days of Mardi Gras, that's 27 less than this year.
In order to get your vehicle back, drivers have to shell out $150. In just two days, the city collected $9,150 from illegally parked drivers.
As the Mardi Gras season continues, don't just watch for good throws, keep an eye out for parking, it'll save you time and money.
MPD's temporary impound lot closes at 11 p.m. each parade night.
If you don't get your vehicle then, it'll be moved to the permanent impound lot on Virgina Street.
