The USNS Pathfinder, a U.S. Navy oceanographic survey ship, serves as the lead vessel in its class. Its primary mission is to conduct extensive acoustical, biological, physical, and geophysical surveys of the world's oceans.
This critical data supports a range of applications, with a key focus on enhancing the U.S. Navy's undersea warfare capabilities by providing detailed insights into the ocean environment.
Owned by the U.S. Navy and managed by the Military Sealift Command, the Pathfinder operates on behalf of the Naval Oceanographic Office. Equipped with three cranes and five winches, the Pathfinder is capable of deploying and retrieving various scientific instruments.
The ship can accommodate a crew of 28, along with up to 27 scientists.
