AUGUSTA - Terry A. Kaler passed away unexpectedly, with his daughters at his side, on Oct. 13, 2024, at Maine Medical Center in Portland following a brief illness. He was born on Dec. 13, 1948, in Augusta, the youngest of four siblings of the late Howard B. Kaler and Martha (Potter) Kaler.
Terry graduated from Cony High School in 1967 where he excelled in athletics, especially on the football field. He proudly served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He would spend most of his career working for the U.S. Veteran's Administration, starting at the Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta then moving to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he continued to work for the VA in facilities management until his retirement. After retirement he moved back home to Augusta to be closer to family and took up residence in the Mayfair section near where he had grown up.
In retirement, Terry spent much time on the golf course - mostly Natanis - playing with his good friend Mike Williams. He possessed a laugh that could fill a room, and it often did. He loved spending time with friends and family, watching college football and cheering on his favorite New England professional team.
Terry is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Kaler and Stacey Kaler; his grandsons Riley True and Mason True; his nephews Todd Nevins, Tim Nevins and wife Elizabeth, Jeff Nevins and wife Barbara, and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents; sister Jean Kaler Nevins and brothers, Tim Kaler and Richard Kaler.
At his request, there will be no public visiting hours or funeral service. A private burial will be held later.
