High school big man from Senegal completes recruiting visit to KU basketball

Mouhamed Sylla, a 6-foot-10, 240-pound senior center from Bella Vista Prep in Scottsdale, Arizona, completed an official men's basketball recruiting visit to Kansas on Wednesday, he reported on his Instagram page.

Sylla, who is originally from Senegal and played last school year with NBA Academy in Latin America, has heard from coaches from KU, Missouri, UConn, Purdue, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Duke, Arkansas, Michigan, Louisville, Arizona State, Oregon, Washington, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Michigan State and others.

He is ranked No. 30 in the recruiting class of 2025 by 247Sports and No. 148 by On3. He will visit Georgia Tech this the weekend and told 247Sports he is considering visiting Missouri, Alabama, Duke. Arizona State, Oregon and Washington.

"I play hard," Sylla told On3 when asked to describe his game. "I play defense and block shots. I watch a lot of Jaren Jackson (NBA's Memphis Grizzlies) because he plays hard every game. He blocks a lot of shots. He goes hard in the paint."

Sylla noted that he wants "to go to a big college, and I want to go somewhere that is going to play hard. I don't know if I'll play the 4 or the 5, but I will play hard."

Eric Bossi of 247Sports calls Sylla "one of the most athletic big men in the class of 2025."

"He's still a work in progress," Bossi noted, "but how light he is on his feet and how much ground he can cover makes him a defender who can move in space and when you add that to his rim protection, he's as good as it comes in the senior class on defense."

Here is the scouting report on Sylla written by Jamie Shaw of On3: "Sylla's best attribute might be that he always seems to be around the ball. Sylla tracks well in and out of his area, both with rebounding and on the defensive end. Defensively, he has some intriguing versatility. Sylla is capable of sliding his feet and turning his hips with perimeter-based forwards. He is also good in the passing lanes and he can protect the rim both on and off the ball. The frame along with the instincts give him an interesting ceiling on defense.

"Offensively, Sylla is best when facing the basket and playing toward the rim. He attempts to dunk everything he catches within five feet of the basket. He rolls well toward the rim and he plays out of the dunker areas, providing vertical floor spacing. He also has some face-up skills off the bounce. Ripping through from the high post and getting to the rim on two or three dribbles.

"... The tools are there. The current production is already in place. The flashes are a little loose, but they provide an intriguing ceiling."
