Many initiatives, protocols, and ventures are trying to connect domain names to blockchain technology. The focus has shifted from "blockchain will replace the traditional domain name system" to "blockchain can work with the traditional DNS," and I think this latter paradigm is more likely to succeed.

D3 has been at the forefront of this shift, even declining to call the names it currently offers domains and using a * rather than a . in them, e.g., name*ape.

The company plans to apply for real top level domains to match these in the next round, and other companies are trying to do the same.

D3 calls its overall vision DomainFi.

I expect companies like D3 to be among the biggest applicants for new TLDs in the next round, making this conference very relevant. I will attend and lead a panel.
