METTLER, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- A 77-year-old Rosemead man who was struck and killed by a vehicle while he was walking on Highway 99, near Highway 166 has been identified by the Kern County coroner.
On Friday, December 6, 2024, at around 6:10 a.m., Michael Anthony Lorusso, of Rosemead was walking on the highway when he was struck.
CHP said in an investigation, it was revealed that the driver of a 2021 GMC Yukon was heading southbound on Highway 99, north of Highway 166, at around 75 miles per hour when they struck Lorusso, was walking within traffic lanes, ahead of the GMC. The driver was not able to avoid crashing into Lorusso.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the GMC cooperated with the police.
