New Titans GM Mike Borgonzi: 'I Will Pick The Players'

In the wake of the Titans firing General Manager Ran Carthon earlier this month, the team has shifted its approach to roster decisions, with President of Football Operations Chad Brinker taking on the responsibility of overseeing the 53-man roster. That led to speculation about how the team would handle its search for a new GM and how it could impact the front office dynamic moving forward.

Mike Borgonzi, recently hired as the team's new GM after serving as the assistant GM with the Kansas City Chiefs, addressed these concerns during a press conference on Wednesday. Borgonzi was adamant that the team's decision-making structure would not create any friction.

"The 53, it's not a concern," Borgonzi explained. "It was not a concern in Kansas City. It never came up."

He went on to emphasize that his approach would be collaborative, stating, "We all kinda worked together to make best decisions for the team."

Borgonzi also made it clear that he has "full authority" over the processes surrounding free agency and the draft, adding, "I will pick the players."

While Borgonzi is confident in his authority, questions arose about the potential for a disagreement between him and Brinker, particularly when it comes to the first overall pick in the upcoming draft.

Brinker, who was also present at the press conference, addressed this scenario directly.

"If we have a difference of opinion, we will go back and further evaluate the options," Brinker said. "We'll work through that together before making any final call."

Borgonzi echoed this sentiment, noting that the two would work together closely to ensure that the best decisions are made for the team moving forward.
