Washington Community High School's Marching Panthers were named Grand Champion after winning Class 4A competition Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, at the Maple Leaf Classic Marching Band Showcase at Bob Reade Field in Geneseo.
The 217-member band, directed by Lisa Parrott and Jim Tallman, received the highest score of all 16 teams in the field, 498.9, from the judges as the top four scores all came from the largest four bands.
The band also won caption awards for Best Percussion, Best Color Guard, Best Music and Best Visual.
Drum Majors Ellie Phelps, Sophie Bowman, Felicity Schryer and Charlotte Maston led the Marching Panthers through their program, "High Flight," which features the selections "Danger Zone," "Where Never Lark Nor Eagle Flew," "Great Balls of Fire," "You Lost That Loving Feeling" and "Top Gun Anthem."
