Wife Says She Prepped Meals for Herself Before Surgery, and Husband Blamed Their Kid Before Admitting He Ate Them

Wife Says She Prepped Meals for Herself Before Surgery, and Husband Blamed Their Kid Before Admitting He Ate Them

"At this point, I'm seriously considering divorce," the woman wrote in a Reddit post

A woman who's recovering from surgery says the process has been anything but easy for one simple reason: her husband.

In a recent post on Reddit's "AmITheA------ "subreddit, the woman said that she had a procedure done on her stomach and intestines that has left her with "barely" enough energy to walk up the stairs or take a shower.

Having been someone active daily, she said that she's now dealing with "anemia, dehydration, and lack of proper nutrition," which have ultimately left her "exhausted."

Knowing that she was set to undergo a serious procedure that would include having a "very strict diet" until being "fully healed," the woman said she "meal prepped" ahead of time for herself, her husband and their 11-year-old son.

"I made meals for myself for every stage of the diet and with specific macros/ingredients to meet my needs and comply with my other health problems - for example, I have celiac disease so everything has to be gluten free," she wrote. "I also follow a low sugar/low carb diet so everything had to comply with that as well."

To ensure nothing went haywire, the woman said she also "stocked up on snacks" her family likes and kept enough food in the freezer attached to their fridge and deep freezer in the garage.

She also said they have a "fairly strict budget right now," which was another reason why she made the food herself.

However, after exhausting the supply in the house, she said she "went out to the garage to restock" and found that "ALL of the meals I'd made for myself are GONE. Just completely emptied out."

"I was really excited to be able to eat some of the food I'd made," she wrote.

The woman said she confronted her husband, who "blamed it on our son first," which she knew was a lie because "the kid hates all of my special food with a passion."

"So I questioned my husband again. He admitted to it, said he'd been taking my meals to work as his lunch because he was 'too tired to make his own lunch' before work,' "wrote the woman. "He has always made his own lunch up until now. He also said he was "bored" with the lunches he makes and my food provided 'variety.' "

According to the woman, their son has been "doing all the lifting for me and helping me with chores and cooking," while her husband "refuses" to cook or help her make new meals.

"At this point, I'm seriously considering divorce. I mean, my son and I are already doing everything on our own already," she wrote. "Am I overreacting?"

The post led to thousands of comments, the majority of which took the woman's side.

"You did not over react. actually you didn't react nearly as strongly as I would have. I I don't even have words for how awful that is," read one reply. "Knowing that you need this food for your health and survival and he eats it for lunch?"

"I'm really sorry. You are not overreacting," added another commenter, who said her husband's response showed "an alarming lack of empathy for you and your post-op recovery."

Although some comments were full of tough love, others just offered support. Read one reply, "You deserve better!"
