Columbus, Culler-Guerra repeat as GMAC golf champs. Goyeneche wins, too. Plus district volleyball

Gia Culler-Guerra of Miami Springs and Alfonso Goyeneche of Miami MAST won championships in the girls' and boys' divisions, respectively, at the GMAC Golf Tournament at Redlands Golf & Country Club in Homestead.

Culler-Guerra, a senior, shot 2-over par 74 to win her second consecutive GMAC title, and Goyeneche, also a senior, scored the same.

Miami Columbus junior Joseph Fernandez was the runner-up, just one shot back of Goyeneche. Senior teammates Victor Herrera and Nicholas Shortal tied for third at 76. Jake Williams, a freshman, was eighth at 81, and senior teammate Hubert Ramirez was ninth at 82 as Columbus successfully defended its team title.

MAST sophomore twins Borja and Inigo Friend tied for fifth at 78. The Makos were runners-up at 361, eight shots back of champion Columbus.

On the girls' side, Miami Beach sophomore Lexi Weissman was the runner-up at 80, followed by Miami TERRA senior Oakley Sever at 84.

In a near repeat of last season, Culler-Guerra won in 2023, Weissman was second and Sever fourth.

There were no girls' team standings this season at GMAC.

The Belen Jesuit boys' golf team defeated True North Classical Academy 147-180 on the Golden Palm Golf Course at Trump National Doral.

The Wolverines were led by senior standout Lorenzo Rodriguez (-3, 33), sophomore Matthew Gonzalez (+1, 37) and junior Daniel Garcia (+2, 38). Freshman teammate Beckett Castro (+3, 39), sophomore Ryan Nieto (+4, 40) and freshman Marley Caudle (+4, 40) scored well, too.

Belen will host the Wolverine Classic on Oct. 23 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens.
