MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) -- Joining us this morning is Justin Driver with Forward Church. Christmas is coming up, commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. A lot of the Bible focuses on his time as a man. But what do we learn about Jesus from his early life?
Driver: I think that's fascinating. There's not a whole lot in the Bible about his early life. So, what you do have is very important. And I think it's important to understand that Jesus grew up and experienced everything that we do as humans.
He had parents that he had to obey. He had things that he had to learn. And I think that's important for us to understand. You mentioned that he had to obey his parents.
Petri: What does Jesus early life teach us about being obedient?
Driver: Yeah, I think that's important. You know, Jesus lived that perfect life. I always think of, you know, Jesus as brother, you know, could.
What did he think of Jesus, you know, living that perfect life and submission to his parents, I think is important for our children to learn these days.
Petri: And one of the things, as you mentioned, is that the record of Jesus early life is not a lot there, but there are a few big stories about it. What can we learn about the story about Jesus getting lost to the Spring Festival and teaching rabbis when he was about 12?
Driver: Right. Well, one of the things that I just recently learned, you know, it was Jewish custom that boys would transition into manhood around the age of 12 or 13 and that in that time. And so, he was probably, you know, he had the opportunity to make his own decisions. And to do his own thing. And he was about his father's business.
He knew that was his mission. And I think that was that was so important to to recognize that that element in that story.
