Detroit Lions Star Apologizes For His Behavior At Lambeau Field

The Detroit Lions are 7-1 this season, and the six-game winning streak they're currently on makes them one of the hottest teams in the league.

They punctuated their great start to the year with a big win over their division rivals, the Green Bay Packers, last Sunday at Lambeau Field.

It was the third win in a row for the Lions at Lambeau, but a Detroit player is apologizing for his conduct during the game.

Lions defensive back Brian Branch was ejected from Sunday's game after a hit on Packers wide receiver Bo Melton in the second quarter. Officials ruled that Branch hit a defenseless Melton in the head, and he was ejected from the game.

While leaving the field, Branch threw up two middle fingers at the crowd, and was hit with an additional 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

The Lions ended up winning the game, but Branch took accountability for his behavior on Wednesday.

"That's not something I wanted to show or want people to notice me as that," said the second-year player.

"That was just the heat of the moment for me, and I apologize to everyone who seen that and that won't happen again."

Branch also said that he thought the decision to eject him from the game was appropriate, but that he didn't intend to hurt Melton with his hit.

"I most definitely agree with the call. My target was obviously high, but that was never my intentions to aim for the head," he said.

"Moving forward I do have to move my target down."

The Lions are moving on after the incident, and they'll face the Houston Texans this week in another primetime matchup. Detroit has been one of the best teams in the NFL this season, and they'll look to prove it once again in front of a national audience.

The team is on its longest winning streak in over a decade, as they won nine games in a row between the 2010 and 2011 regular seasons. We'll see if they can keep things going on Sunday night against another division leader in Houston.

The game can be seen nationally at 8:20 PM ET on NBC.
