BMW has recalled 130 units of its 2025 X4 SUV because a frame problem could damage their head airbags as they deploy, keeping them from working properly.
BMW tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the inner-left roof frames of these SUVs may have small cracks. A deploying airbag can snag on those cracks, damaging the airbag so that it can't properly cushion occupants in an accident.
BMW is not aware of this happening on a customer's car. Inspectors discovered the issue at the factory and stopped the production line to correct it on new cars. However, dealers may have delivered some affected models to customers before the company knew of the problem.
Dealers will fix it by inspecting the frame and repairing it if necessary. Recall repairs are always free.
