Airport and Jet2 warn passengers over M62 closure

Manchester Airport and airline Jet2 have warned passengers to be wary of closures on the M62 motorway as a new rail bridge is built.

A section of the motorway near Rochdale, Greater Manchester, will be shut from Friday at 21:00 BST until 06:00 on Monday.

The eastbound carriageway between Junction 18 and Junction 20 and the westbound carriageway between Junction 19 and Junction 20 will be closed.

It has been shut for the installation of a new £22m rail bridge in Castleton. The old one was demolished two weeks ago.

Passengers driving to the airport have been warned to allow extra time or find a different route.

An airport statement said: "Delays are expected, please allow extra time for your journeys."

It added: "Signed diversion route will be in place."

A Jet2 statement said "motorists are advised to avoid this section of the M62" and plan an "alternate route".

National Highways also advised drivers to "plan ahead and allow more time to complete your journey".

The 138ft (42m) long Castleton bridge is used by trains travelling from West Yorkshire to Greater Manchester.
