Around 55% PC Users Find AMD Ryzen 9000 "Zen 5" CPUs To Be 'Mediocre', Reveals 3DCenter Poll

More people view AMD Ryzen 9000 CPUs negatively than positively but the overall impression remains somewhat neutral.

3DCenter.org conducted a survey last month, giving users the option to choose from one of the options to reveal what people think about the recent AMD Zen 5-based Ryzen 9000 series launch. Even though it was a small survey, it does give us an insight into what most users think about the Zen 5 CPUs.

Around 1000 people participated in the poll(977 users exact) and out of 11 provided options, more than half of them chose to be on the neutral side. The 11 options were divided into 'Positive', 'Average', and 'Negative', from which 55.2% of users chose the four 'Average' options. The most selected option was "Average first impression, primarily lacks a bit of more performance(purely in the gaming area)", which received 23% votes in total.

'Negative' was the second most popular feedback by the users with almost 23.7% votes, exceeding the 'Positive' voting of about 21.1%. The takeaway from this survey is that most users are unimpressed by the generational uplifts the Ryzen 9000 series brought to the table as evidenced by the most selected answer. Most users also think that the Ryzen 9000 CPUs primarily 'lacks a bit of more performance' including both gaming and productivity.

This has been the most common response of PC enthusiasts around the globe. However, about 14% of participants think that the Ryzen 9000 CPUs primarily lack performance in both gaming and productivity. 9% of the users also think that the prices are quite high if we compare it to the predecessors.

On the flip side, 12% of users think that the Ryzen 9000 CPUs look 'interesting' for purchase but another 5% of users who chose the Positive feedback think that the CPUs are a bit on the pricier side. As per 3DCenter's CPU Launch Poll Results from 2011-2024, the positive impression has gone down drastically from Zen 4 to Zen 5. This was also the case with Zen 3 to Zen 4 transition but the Ryzen 7800X3D received over 80% positive feedback.

In short, AMD Ryzen 9000 CPUs are criticized for their price point. Surely, there is a lackluster generational uplift too but the CPUs are overall mediocre since they don't seem to be a good upgrade over Ryzen 7000 CPUs.

On the other hand, for users who want to go with the AM5 platform from scratch, Ryzen 9000 CPUs seem fine, particularly the Ryzen 9700X, which is a decent productivity option. Surely, there are some better alternatives from previous generations if we go by the prices, which is why a lot of users are also looking forward to the launch of Intel Arrow Lake CPUs, which are expected to launch on 24th October.
